Students observed what happens to the sheep when they ride in a jeep and collide into a wall. We discussed Newton's First Law of Motion ~ "Every object persists in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed on it." In other words, "things tend to keep on doing whatever they're doing until something else (affects) them."
Hello 5th Graders!
I've always wanted to start a blog, but was never really sure where to start. I guess this is it. I'll start by explaining the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt curriculum. The middle school teachers wanted to adopt a new curriculum when the Next Generation Standards came out and South Dakota adopted new science standards as well. The textbook and online curriculum have a lot of neat experiments and lots of reading (research). I think it is a good way to start the year, especially since the other grades will use this curriculum too. After this 1st unit, I would like to get back to some of my favorite lessons and units. |
